RSK Launches Interoperability Bridge Amongst Bitcoin and Ethereum

The parent organization guiding the bitcoin-dependent intelligent contract platform RSK has introduced a new token bridge joining it to ethereum.

Gibraltar-dependent developer IOV Labs introduced Wednesday that the recently produced interoperability bridge would allow for customers to cross RSK- and ethereum-dependent electronic assets, together with ether and ERC-20 tokens, throughout the diverse protocols.

When a consumer transfers tokens, the bridge’s intelligent contract locks the originals and mints a corresponding amount of money of new tokens on the other chain. Employing the process, ether-dependent tokens can be transformed into RSK’s RRC20 tokens, which conversely can be turned into ethereum ERC777 tokens.

Interoperability protocols make it a lot easier for tasks to operate on diverse blockchains. Decentralized applications (dapps) can cater to a broader foundation of customers, who would otherwise remain siloed in shut networks, and tasks can leverage certain traits of diverse blockchains simultaneously.

“Interoperability has been a cornerstone of the RSK vision from the begin,” described Adrian Eidelman, RSK Strategist at IOV Labs. “We believe currently being in a position to offer you Bitcoin’s advantages to Ethereum customers and to connect these respective developer communities is a important action for the blockchain ecosystem as a full.”

There are other protocols giving interoperability in between bitcoin and ethereum: Wanchain introduced a token bridge in between the two networks in 2018. Edelman instructed CoinDesk that whilst Wanchain focuses on connecting blockchains by currently being a “intermediary,” RSK is diverse in that it really brings together the networks, permitting both ecosystems to leverage the other’s strengths.

Bitcoin stablecoin protocol Money on Chain, which works by using bitcoin as collateral for new tokens, has currently said it will use the new RSK bridge to cross its stablecoins on to the ethereum ecosystem. The project’s co-founder Max Carjuzaa said the new interoperability would merge the safety and “international recognition of Bitcoin with the vibrant DeFi ecosystem at the moment formulated in Ethereum.”

Final September, IOV labs said it would combine RSK tokens into its recently acquired Spanish-language social media community, Taringa. Even more details about any possible integrations with the interoperability bridge will be produced in the coming months, a spokesperson said.
