The French finance minister has explained the nation designs to block Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency in the EU about considerations that it poses a risk to “monetary sovereignty.”
According to The Independent newspaper on Thursday, Bruno Le Maire, Economy and Finance Minister of France, said:
“I want to be completely apparent: In these ailments, we are not able to authorise the enhancement of Libra on European soil.”
Le Maire was talking at the opening of an OECD conference on cryptocurrencies.
The minister has earlier expressed considerations about Libra’s risk to countrywide currencies, declaring right after the cryptocurrency’s debut in June that “It is out of question’’ that Libra be allowed to “become a sovereign forex. It can not and it must not come about.”
